Potato bonda is a spicy, sweet snack made of potato, Onion, green chilly, curry leaves, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, chilly powder and asafoetida powder. The batter is prepared with gram and rice flour. Its a delicious snack found almost in all tea shops
and hotels. In North India its called as Aloo bonda. Its a perfect tea snack that can be made very easily. The real taste of bonda is awesome when its had with chutney. The spicy chutney is
a real combination with salty snacks. Snacks taken without applying chutney creates a different taste. I say having it with coconut/onion chutney makes you to have it more.

This snacks is famous for its crispy outer coating and the aloo seasoned with masala creates a awesome smell and taste. The potato has a sweet taste in themselves. Thus it creates more awful taste when mixed with spicy masalas. If potato mix measurement exceeds don't be worried. This mix can even be had with chapati, puri, dosa or any other snacks that you prefer.
Thus the spicy potato masala is perfect solution for other snacks also.

INGREDIENTS

three medium sized potatoes
one medium sized onion
three green chillies
small piece of ginger
garlic two or three pieces (Optional)
few curry leaves
1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
1/2 tsp of chilly powder
2 pinch of asafoetida powder
salt and oil as required

Wash the vegetables. Cut the potato into half each. Take a pressure
cooker, add the potato, add 1/2 glass of water or as required. The potato to be immersed in water. Cook it in medium flame with one time whistle. When the pressure of the cooker settles, Remove
the potato from the cooker and keep it for cooling. Then peel and smash it. Keep it aside.

Never add too much in the beginning. As you may be quite aware that the salt consistency can be adjusted. When the onion becomes transparent add the smashed potatoes mix it well for a while. Taste the salt and add if required. Remove from the flame and let it be cooled. Meanwhile we have to make batter for coating the potatoes.

Take a wide pan. Add 1/4 glass of gram flour and rice flour. Add the balance quantity of turmeric and chilly powder, put little salt and 2 pinches of asafoetida powder and mix it well. Pour little amount of water, make a thick batter. Never add too much.
Water to be added little by little. Make sure to make a medium thick batter. Able to coat the potato mix without withdrawal.

Check the potato mix is cooled. Make small balls with it.

Place kadai on the flame in medium flame. Pour required oil. Dip the potato balls in the batter and fry it by turning both sides. You can add up to four or five potato balls in one time.

I like garlic so added it. If you don't prefer can skip it. That is optional.
